I was thinking to myself, the year 2019 is about to end, which means we are entering the 40th year of Zanu rule over Zimbabwe. 40 bloody years! On Saturday I was talking to some activists at the ZHRO Vigil outside the Zimbabwean Embassy and we were listing Zanu’s crimes since they came to power in 1980 and we gave up after listing 20.
So I decided to go a step further and list some of Emmerson Mnangagwa’s major crimes against the Zimbabwean people. He is the man who is ruling Zimbabwe by force, I think it is important to check his history. Please read this carefully so that you get a sense of how cruel this man is and how he and not Mugabe was the main problem in Zimbabwe since 1980.
As the boss of the CIO in the 1980s he created the fake intelligence that led to thousands of Ndebeles being accused of trying to overthrow the government. Tens of thousands of Ndebele people were killed and buried in mass graves.
He was Zanu’s financial secretary and used his position to steal money from government for decades.
• He led the Zimbabwean army into Kabila’s war in the DRC. This war cost the Zimbabwean government USD1m per week and led to the fall of the Zim dollar. Because of Zimbabwe’s involvement in this war, the USA imposed sanctions on the regime. The war took the lives of many Zimbabwe’s soldiers whose families where never compensated.
• In 2008 he rigged the general election which had been won by Morgan Tsvangirayi and the MDC. He went on to lead targeted killings of MDC supporters using soldiers and Zanu thugs. He did this to scare away the MDC from participating in the second round of that election.
• In 2017 he took power by force in a coup and made himself president. He then rigged the election of 2018 and ordered killings and beatings of protesters. In 2019 he ordered beatings and killings of MDC supporters in the urban areas as well as abductions.
When one looks at the above crimes, one can conclude that Mnangagwa is a thief and a murderer. There is only one place where thieves and murderers belong and that’s prison. I hope one day, very soon, this man stands trial for his crimes.
