August 1, democracy is killed in Zimbabwe.

1 August 2018 shall be a day Zimbabweans and the world at large will always remember. The shock , brutality and day light shootings of civilians for exercising their democratic right by the Zimbabwe national army will be remembered for ever. As voters and citizens, it was within their rights to demand release of the election results which had taken longer than usual to be announced. The response from ZEC and it’s reluctancy brewed anxiety among citizens causing unrest.

If it was a clean and fair game , the army wouldn’t have been unleashed viciously to shoot to kill. Moreover the citizens had no weapons, but unfortunately they got shot from the back as they had been perceived as enemies of the state.

Millions of dollars and time were wasted by setting up a commission of enquiry which up to date has not yielded any results and no one has been arrested or held accountable for the loss of the six innocent civilians. MDCA Reading is saddened that three years down the line, justice has not still been served and all government systems are controlled by the Zimbabwe government of Mnangagwa .We will always remember Sylivia Matambo Maphosa, Brian Zhuwawo, Challenge Tauro, Gavin Charles Dean, Ishmael Kumire and Jealous Chakandira. May your souls continue to rest in peace but the struggle for democracy continues.
