NEW LAWS AIMED AT ELIMINATING OPPOSITION

By Reuben Gift Waretsa.

Social media is awash with unconfirmed reports of an imminent bill by the Zanupf government aimed at criminalising all those who speak in favour of selective sanctions that are currently on some Zimbabwean government officials and companies. Rumour is that once passed as law, it will be illegal for any individual or organisation to speak in support of Western sanctions on the Zanupf machinery.

What we see is another ploy by the Zanupf government to look for fresh reasons to justify unlawful arrests and detention of the MDCA leaders and members .It is nolonger a secret that the Zanupf administration has embarked on a terror campaign do decimate the MDCA,which is the only legitimate opposition representing the aspirations of the people of Zimbabwe.

Zanupf has always wanted to fool the world into believing that the economic meltdown we see in Zimbabwe today is as a result of these sanctions. Without wasting time in going into the technical nitty-gritties, the simple reason for those sanctions was to whip Zanupf into implementing reforms that were critical for leveling the political playing field in Zimbabwe. It must be made public that Western sanctions were not aimed at anything else other than encouraging the Zanupf government to observe democratic principles,  institutions and the rule of law.

Zanupf must stop this nonsense of wasting time on useless projects whilst ignoring the disastrous effects of the poverty that our people are currently experiencing.  These are the priorities the administration in Harare should be grappling with rather than a sanctions bill which does not add value to their lives.

Zimbabweans know why our economy is on its knees. It is Zanupf corruption,  mismanagement and cartels that have destroyed the Zimbabwe economy.  Zanupf must Stop pulling wool over our eyes.
